My sister recently referenced my Stevie Deep Thoughts website in front of an intimate group of 180 close friends and family. Sadly, it has now been over a year since my last post on the site, so I thought I was due for a new outpouring of deep thoughts. Nothing is to blame for the year-long draught of my writings other than a scarcity of life’s greatest resource. My time and thoughts were primarily focused on my recent wedding and my new wife.
Life can be a rollercoaster of emotions, there is no doubt about that, but perspective on these events are what separate us from one another. I will save the detailed story of learning that our wedding venue was double booked five weeks before our wedding for another day, but if that was a test of the strength of my new marriage then I would like to think that we passed without any doubt. My wife and I also experienced a spell of cold weather during our wedding weekend, cold even for Michigan, and a rather sassy and seismic volcano on our honeymoon, but these merely made our adventures together all the more memorable.
Rather than being angry about the wedding venue situation, we put together the best damn wedding we could (in large part thanks to Holden!). In lieu of being upset about the potential for volcanic eruptions, we opted for smiles and crossed fingers. Instead of being weirded out by how my office approached me getting married… well that still remains weird, but two out of three ain’t bad, right? Back off, I’m not perfect… yet.
Depending on when you met me, in what stage of my life, you may have different perspectives on how you view my outlook on life. Someone who knows me as the guy in the office down the hall from them will likely view me differently than the friend I met in college or the teammate on a business school project. I am very much self-aware of certain cynical tendencies, but I also hope to project the way I feel now as a glass half full kind of man with most aspects of my life going forward. I know how fortunate I am to have such great family and friends and now a very perfect wife.
I truly am the luckiest.
Dancing with my wife to our first song, The Luckiest.
